The Polycom PoE cable for the Polycom 501 and 301 IP phones provides 802.3af PoE compatiblilty for these phones. The 501 and 301 do not have the necessary hardware built in to receive power through the Ethernet cable. Using this cable allows the Polycom 501 and 301 to receive power via 802.3af PoE.
